motoTunes was intended to be an alternative to Apple(c) iTunes.
As far as you know, on some Motorola phones (ROKR E1, RAZR V3i) there is an MP3 player "iTunes". It's the best player for Moto, that I've ever saw, but it has several limitations, e.g. you can't do bluetooth with files that are in iTunes, you can't use your card reader to upload songs to your phone, etc.
So, some of theese problems motoTunes can solve! Just try it!

motoTunes mobile was intended to be j2me version of motoTunes, so you can update iTunes database without PC connection.

Nowadays, there is a "tweaked" iTunes from GRAFMOTO, VASSIO and some other people, that can update it's DB, so motoTunes mobile is not useless.

But, it was the first j2me app for Motorola, that is writtend in MidletPascal and supports working with MP3 files and filesystem. So if you are interested in MidletPascal programming, the source code would be intersting for you!
